Edinburgh Sport is bringing the global RUN X running challenge to the Pleasance, giving runners the opportunity to take on an official 5K, record their time and see how they compare with runners around the world.
As a leader in sport, fitness and active wellbeing, the University of Edinburgh Sport is proud to bring this exciting initiative to the Pleasance. In partnership with Technogym and World Athletics, RUN X combines innovative fitness technology with the thrill of competition, giving you the chance to challenge yourself, chase a personal best and become part of something global.
Whether you’re a regular runner, training for your next race or simply looking for a new challenge, it’s time to step onto the treadmill and see what you can achieve.
What is RUN X?
RUN X is a global 5K treadmill competition developed by Technogym in partnership with World Athletics, the international governing body for athletics. It brings together recreational runners and competitive athletes, allowing participants to record official times on connected Technogym treadmills and compare their performances on a global leaderboard.
The competition has three stages:
Qualifications (October 2026 - January 2027): Complete an official 5K at a participating RUN X centre and get your time on the leaderboard.
Regionals (January - February 2027): The highest-performing runners in eligible categories progress to the regional stage.
World Finals (20-21 March 2027): Qualifying runners compete for the first-ever World Treadmill Championship titles.
Whether you’re chasing a place on the leaderboard or simply aiming to beat your own personal best, RUN X offers a new way to experience the excitement of racing.
