First played in 1861, the annual rugby contest between the University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews is one of Scotland’s oldest and most enduring sporting traditions. In 1861, the two universities met for what would become the first Scottish Varsity Match, beginning a sporting rivalry that has survived for more than a century and a half.
